Romantic Dinner at Home

Valentine’s Day is all about showing the one you love exactly how you feel, whether that’s through a thoughtful card or delicious box of chocolates. As we ring in the new year of 2017 and welcome yet another Valentine’s Day, however, take the chance and try something a little different with these 5 at-home, romantic date ideas – after all, it really is the thought that counts!

1.    Indulge in a candlelit dinner.

While hundreds of people struggle to make reservations and eat inside of crowded, cramped restaurants, save yourself the trouble and cook your own dinner at home. You can cook your meal together, or have your significant other sit back and relax while you whip up something special – and since it’s Valentine’s Day, you can even go all out and make their favorite dish. And just because your date isn’t at a fancy eatery doesn’t mean you have to be any less elegant; drape a new tablecloth, set the table with your best settings, and light a few candles to enhance your dinner for two.

2.    Have a movie night.

The best part about having a movie night at home is the freedom you have. Instead of being cramped next to complete strangers and sworn to silence throughout the entire film, you and your partner can instead enjoy a movie night in your spacious living room, where you are free to stretch out, eat unlimited amounts of popcorn and candy, and talk through the movie as much as you’d like. If you really want to pamper your loved one, buy all of their beloved munchies ahead of time to snack on throughout the night, and let them pick the flicks you get to watch – even if it is something you normally wouldn’t want to see!

3.    Stargaze the night sky.

There are so many benefits to living in secluded, open land areas like Allentown, Pennsylvania. One of the best advantages is being able to see the night sky in all of its stunning, sparkling glory. If you and your date decide to have a romantic night at home instead of going out, you’ll find that spending your Valentine’s Day evening stargazing on your apartment’s private balcony or patio will be one of the best dates you’ll have in a long time. Simply spread a blanket out for the two of you to lay on, arrange some cozy pillows and throws to cuddle with, and have fun seeing how many constellations you can find and name as your admire the beauty of the night.

4.    Host your own wine-and-design class.

While the wine-and-design craze becomes even more popular with each passing day, it’s not the best place to spend quality, one-on-one time with a boyfriend, girlfriend, fiancé, husband or wife. For those artsy couples who want to enjoy the elements of a wine-and-design class – but also want to have their alone time on Valentine’s Day – recreate a session in the privacy of your own apartment. Make a stop at a nearby crafting store ahead of time, picking up two easels, canvases, paint brushes and a set of paints for your creations. Surprise your better half with their choice of wine, and consult a YouTube tutorial if you need some extra help getting started.

5.    Enjoy a game night.

Some couples might enjoy going out to the bar or club, but there’s also a majority of homebodies out there who would much rather have fun in their very own space. If the latter describes you and your guy or girl, then this Valentine’s Day, treat your sweetie to a fun-filled game night; if the two of you have a couple in mind for a double date – and some friendly competition – then that’s even better! You can play games as simple as charades and Yatzee, to more complex board games like Battlestar Galactica. If you’ve got a video game console for your television – whether it’s a Nintendo 64 or the latest Wii – that could be an option as well. Provide snacks and drinks for you and your gaming group to enjoy throughout the night, and remember to let your partner win at least one of the games!
