Easy Hikes in Lehigh Valley

If you are looking for mostly flat terrain and a leisurely experience, you will love any of these hikes. Just because these are labeled “easy” does not make the trails any less fun or beautiful. On these hikes you will experience incredible scenery – so be sure to give each trail a try if you live in the Lehigh Valley area.

 

1. Little Lehigh Parkway Trail

This trail is a loop spanning about 6 miles. Those who hike this trail often love that you can shorten it if needed, so hikers of all skill levels enjoy this excursion. Because it is relatively flat, this trail is great for running. This trail is just 1 mile from Allentown’s city center, so stop by after your hike to explore some more or grab a bite to eat.

 

2. Jordan Creek Trail

This trail runs alongside the beautiful Jordan Creek in Whitehall, Pennsylvania. Hikers enjoy birdwatching and observing the different wildlife in the creek. Take a nice hike alongside the creek, go mountain biking or explore the athletic fields in the park next door. You will find a disc golf course and public tennis courts to use after your hike.

 

3. Bauer Rock

This short hike is only about half of a mile, but hikers come here to appreciate the nature and go rock climbing. Bauer Rock Park offers some cool boulders and caves to explore, so this is a great trail for all ages. There also is a beautiful view of the valley that you do not want to miss! This trail is not for people looking for a long hike.

 

4. Ironton Railroad Trail

Originally home to the Ironton Rail, this trail now consists of a 6-mile loop and 3.5-mile spur for a nice, long hike in Lehigh Valley. This well-maintained trail is adored by visitors from all over the country, as it offers some different scenery and unique history along the way. Don’t miss the spur of stones for climbing and exploring while on your hike. Otherwise, this trail is relatively easy and should not be a problem for most hikers.

 

5. Fireman’s Trail

Looking for a short but beautiful hike in the Lehigh Valley? Don’t miss out on Fireman’s Trail at Trexler Nature Preserve. This trail is only 2.5 miles, perfect for stopping at the nature preserves, going for a leisurely walk and even mountain biking. This trail is relatively secluded, so it is great if you are in need of some peace and quiet – tranquility only the great outdoors can provide.

 

Moderate Hikes

If you like to work up a sweat during your hikes, then definitely consider these more challenging hikes in the Lehigh Valley! Moderate hikes tend to feature more rugged terrains, higher elevations and climbs, and longer trail lengths. If that is right up your alley, don’t miss these moderate hikes in Lehigh Valley.

 

6. South Mountain-Orange Trail

Located near Emmaus, Pennsylvania, South Mountain-Orange Trail is a 3.8-mile loop boasting some of the most beautiful views in Lehigh Valley. There are quick inclines and declines on this trail, which tend to attract adventurous trail runners looking for an intense workout. Other visitors take their time and call this trail a peaceful walk.

 

7. Trexler Border Trail & Trexler Mountain Bike Trails

The Trexler Nature Preserve is a favorite amongst Lehigh Valley residents. This trail features a river, some inclines, and a popular hiking and mountain bike trail. This 9-mile loop will take a nice chunk of your afternoon to complete, so this is a great day trip if you are looking to explore the entire preserve and trails.
