Summer is a time to get away and unwind, but vacations can be a hassle! Between packing, planning, countless miles on the road, and uncertain accommodations, they usually end up becoming stressful and expensive. But a close-to-home STAY-cation gives you all of the fun without any of the fuss. Consider visiting some of the many Lehigh Valley attractions right under our noses!
1. Lehigh Valley Wine Trail
If you’re looking for a romantic escape or even a girl’s trip, the picturesque LVWT is the place to be! There are nine different family-owned vineyards with no formal itineraries – start and stop wherever and whenever you wish.
Depending on the operation, you might visit the actual vineyards or tour the production areas. Some host special events, while others feature live music from time to time. Most offer tasting/sampling arrangements, as well as a retail shop!
2. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom
Heart –ponding rides and thrilling slides: for families, these parks can’t be beat! From scream-worthy roller coasters to more classic (and calmer!) rides, Dorney has something for everyone. The little ones can hang out with everyone’s favorite canine at Planet Snoopy, with kid-friendly rides and live character shows. Beat the heat with Wildwater Kingdom’s three-dozen-plus slides, pools, rivers, and water play areas. Spending the day (or two) at these parks can work up an appetite! Luckily, there are a wide variety of dining options to choose from. Whether you crave funnel cakes, fresh cut French Fries or gluten-free options, Dorney has something for every taste.
SteelStacks in Bethlehem is a ten-acre campus dedicated to arts, culture, family, events, community celebrations, education, and fun! Originally the home plant of Bethlehem Steel, the site has been reborn through music and art, offering more than 1,000 concerts (many are free!) and eight different festivals annually. You can find a variety of dining options from casual to intimate, and have fun foodie events throughout the summer!
4. Drive-In Movies
Whether it’s a rainy day or you just want to get out of the sun, you can go to one of the many movie theaters in Lehigh Valley. For even more fun, go back-in-time by watching movies outside and listening to the movie on your car radio. Shankweiler’s Drive-In in Orefield is the oldest operating drive-in theatre in America. You can also visit Becky’s Drive-In in Walnutport, with its multi-screen viewing and an extensive snack menu.
5. Bed & Breakfast
If you’re looking for some serious R & R, the Lehigh Valley is home to many fine inns and bed & breakfasts to enjoy. Located in Bethlehem, Wyndor Hall is just one of the many historic B & B’s in the area – dating back to 1756! It is notable for its lavish furnishings, heirloom antiques, crystal chandeliers, and beautiful works of art, and has been host to notable world leaders and celebrities!
The Glasbern Inn is tucked away on 130 peaceful and secluded acres in Fogelsville, and is known for their beautiful rooms and suites with cozy fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Treat yourself with Lehigh Valley fine dining (fresh from their sustainable pastures to your plate), an award-winning wine list, and on-site spa.
